The Indian Rugby Football Union (IRFU) has amended its Articles of Association in line with the National Sports Governance Act, 2025 and the associated Sports Governance Rules for National Sports Federations.
In accordance with the applicable framework, IRFU is initiating the process of inviting applications from eligible retired rugby players for inclusion in the Sports Persons of Outstanding Merit (SOM) Roster. The SOM Roster shall comprise 40 eligible athletes (20 male and 20 female) in accordance with the applicable governance framework. Applications must be submitted directly to IRFU on or before 24 August 2026.
Only Sports Persons of Outstanding Merit included in the SOM Roster shall be eligible to be elected or nominated to the membership slots reserved for SOMs in the General Body of IRFU (4 SOMs in total – 2 male SOMs and 2 female SOMs) and/or be eligible to be elected for the posts reserved for SOMs on the Board of Directors of IRFU (2 SOMs in total – 1 male SOM and 1 female SOM) in accordance with IRFU’s Articles of Association.
Eligible retired rugby players are encouraged to review the application documents and submit their applications to info@rugbyindia.in within the prescribed timeline.
